Sodium Bicarbonate (Soda Blast)
Soda Blast, Baking Soda, or sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3), is a versatile granular abrasive suitable for use in pressure blast systems, siphon systems and pressure washing applications.
Soda Blast is a water soluble and environmentally-friendly blasting abrasive that can be used for cleaning, paint removal, degreasing of delicate surfaces, engine rebuilding, bearings and other sensitive parts, composite materials, graffiti removal, stone restoration, brick work, food processing facilities and manufacturing equipment.
It's angular baking soda crystals are designed to be delivered at relatively low pressures, but its high friability will fracture into smaller pieces creating a scouring effect that helps to break apart and remove many types of coatings with minimal substrate disturbance (2.5 Mohs Hardness).
Special consideration should be used when determining its usage with some coatings, as baking soda abrasives can leave a surface pH of up to 8.5 that may interfere with coating adherence and performance if precautions arent taken to post clean the surface. Contact between plants and baking soda residue should also be avoided as it can cause damage to flora.
